Dassault Systèmes , a world leader in 3D design, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced that PSA Peugeot Citroën has deployed DELMIA in its powertrain division, extending Dassault Systèmes’ footprint in the digital manufacturing domain. Replacing solutions from the competition, DELMIA now supports assembly simulation, painting, factory layout, stamping and powertrain.

PSA Peugeot Citroën works with the same tools and methodologies inall major departments of the group.

Within the last few years, PSA Peugeot Citroën has introduced key technological innovations for powertrain, including significant R&D investments to develop and market a new generation of engines and transmissions. For example, the group is starting the production of a new DCT (Dual Stock Transmission) gear box with a double clutch, involving Dassault Systèmes’ DELMIA.

To support innovation and increase business agility, it is therefore crucial for PSA Peugeot Citroën to be able to make radical changes early in the powertrain manufacturing process without compromising the production schedule. DELMIA strongly contributes to this objective by ensuring high-level planning reliability along with optimized implementation times and costs. As a result, the group is able to master powertrain development times, reduce development and operating costs, optimize resources and investments, while improving quality. The Centre will focus on various application domains of PLM and specifically develop new educational methods adapted to the strong competency expectations of the globalized industries and R&D institutions in South Africa, particularly within the automotive and aerospace industries. This platform will enable the reform of engineering curricula and act as an integrating agent for multidisciplinary R&D. It will also provide a networking capability for integrated learning projects conducted between geographically dispersed teams.

The activities of the Centre will involve hundreds of students and educators at CPUT, and will link strongly into industrial, community-based and rural development initiatives, both from the private and public sectors.  Most significantly, the Centre will be in a position to play an active role in strategic national efforts, such as large infrastructure projects in the energy and transport sectors and space science projects, including satellite technology and astronomy infrastructure

Conceived by a team of avid pilots who are also Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)-trained engineers, the Transition is designed to make aviation more accessible to private pilots by reducing the cost of maintaining a plane. Owners can keep the vehicle in a home garage, eliminating airport hangar fees, and the vehicle runs on unleaded gasoline, which is less expensive and cleaner than aviation fuel.

Terrafugia is self-certifying the Transition to meet the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s new Light Sport Aircraft standard and the safety standards of the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. “As a small company with limited resources, it was critical for us to design the Transition and test it virtually,” Terrafugia CEO/CTO Carl Dietrich says. “We had to be confident the design would succeed before we could build it, and Dassault Systèmes software became a critical tool that we used to help build that confidence.”

VÉLIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, France – February 10, 2011 – Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announced today that BMW has selected its V6 PLM solutions to develop the future electrical, electronics, and embedded software (E/E) architecture of BMW cars.

BMW chose Dassault Systèmes’ V6 solution for thousands of engineers because of its flexible PLM backbone, and the large degree of out-of-the-box, specialized functionality for systems engineering.

With the Architecture, Integration and Design for Automotive Project (AIDA), BMW will implement a seamless collaborative process to connect the various constituents and actors of the E/E process, putting BMW’s customers’ values at the center of the innovation process. By leveraging Dassault Systèmes’ V6 to create a single IP reference, BMW will link customer requirements to implementable functions in the car, while defining the logical architecture of the systems and releasing the physical expression in form of hardware and software.

BMW will leverage the V6 solution to manage the future complexity of embedded systems in the car by providing a master architecture for all car derivations and enabling a constant modernization of car functions. The re-use of functions and the separation of hardware and software components in the development process will help BMW gain significant cost savings in the E/E domain.

The V6 PLM systems design solution will be connected to the current BMW enterprise environment, demonstrating the openness of the V6 platform. This successful deployment, already in operation today, is the first step in a 10-year partnership that BMW and Dassault Systèmes have signed to build the best infrastructure and applications for the E/E domain.
